Don Bosco, Kachella bag premier titles in Thirsty Football Cup
In the Men's Open title final match, ERCO A had a chance to score first on an attempt by Caligdong but the ball hit the post and was saved by DB's goalkeeper Chris Richard Escudero.
In the second half, another cross by Caligdong got wasted when none of his teammates made it on the other side in time for a follow-up.
During the shootout, Warloo Sabella gave DB Alumni C the lead when his ball hit the post and rebounded inside the goal. Philippine Azkals' Ian Araneta, playing for ERCO A leveled the field with his attempt. Bong Aller made it 2-1 in favor DB Alumni C while Caligdong's attempt went wide.
Former Azkals' Richard Canedo gave DB Alumni FC the win after putting his attempt past ERCO A's goalkeeper.
DB Alumni C's Escudero was later named Most Valuable Player (MVP).
DB Alumni C clinched its finals ticket with a 1-0 edging of Centcomm Mizkits A in the semifinals while ERCO A advanced by prevailing in a penalty shootout against Queen City United, 3-2.
In the Women's Open, named MVP was Kachella FC's Jonnaliza Torres.
The yellow-jersey clad Kachella earned a spot in the championship by dismissing University of San Carlos (USC) Green, 2-1, via a penalty shootout.
DB Ladies, on the other hand, booked their finals entry via a 1-0 edging of ERCO A.

DB Alumni upsets Erco-A

Monday, February 18, 2013DON Bosco Alumni-C brought home the coveted Men’s Open title of the 10th Thirsty Football Cup after an upset win over the dreaded Erco-A, 3-1, last Sunday night at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Don Bosco Alumni-C came into the match as the underdogs but quickly shrugged this off as they rose to the occasion and defeated Erco-A, which was powered by Azkals players Chieffy Caligdong and striker Ian Araneta.
Don Bosco Alumni-C’s Chris Richard Escudero was declared the best footballer in the Men’s Open division.
Don Bosco Alumni-C earned a slot in the round of 32 after finishing second in Group 15 with five points from a win and two draws.
They edged out Cent Comm Mizkits-B, 3-2.
Don Bosco Alumni-C advanced to the quarterfinals following a 2-0 rout over Visayas State University in the Round of 16, then beat sister squad Don Bosco Alumni-A, 1-0, before a similar 1-0 win over Cent Comm Mizkits-A in the semi-final round.
Erco A, on the other hand, had the tournament’s best record with 12 points from four wins.
Erco A defeated Indiana FC, 1-0, in the Round of 32; UP SMB, 2-0, in the Round of 16; Warshockz, 1-0, in the quarterfinals; and Queen City United, 4-3.
Meanwhile, Kachella FC topped the Women’s Open division with a 2-0 victory over DB Ladies.
Jonnaliza Torres was named the division’s MVP.
Kachella FC was unbeaten in the group stage, finishing with nine points from three wins. They ranked second going into the Round of 16.
Kachella FC edged out Silliman University, 7-6, to advance in the quarterfinals.
Kachella FC beat Jivas Regal, 1-0, in the quarter finals and USC Green in the semi-finals, 2-1.
